THE DEEP DIVE

For our first project, the 10th- grade Innovation Academy cohort took on the Deep Dive: an investigation based on a problem that plagues Lima. For three months, our three separate teams focused on three important issues: stray dogs, families struggling with separation, and undocumented cases of gender-based violence. Our purpose was to raise awareness about these issues through the craft of photography.

STRAY DOGS

In Peru, there are over 6million (1million in Lima alone) abandoned dogs on the streets. They usually become stray because the owners find themselves incapable of taking care of them.

WHAT IS BEING DONE?

Thankfully, we weren't the only ones that recognized this problem. There are many shelters and programs in place that work towards taking care of all these dogs. WUF and Voz Animal are two such companies. These three pictures were taken at the Voz Animal shelter in Chilca.

OUR PROPOSAL

As part of the project, my partner and I came up with a proposed solution that could aid in the effort to get strays off the street. Our idea consisted of creating a type of adoption center made specifically for past strays. Our plan was to make sure the notion that strays were rude tempered and should be avoided was abolished.
