Creation of a Club

LO 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

LO 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

Now more than ever, we're constantly reminded about the environmental issues that are affecting Earth. If immediate action is not taken, then it might be too late, which is a haunting thought. I often overhear my classmates talking about how they wish they could do something and the sense of helplessness regarding the carelessness of I've always felt the need to do something about it, so I stowed my laziness and took action.

My newly founded club, Not a Real Club (NRC), was created under the idea that if several politicians and world leaders believe that climate change is not a real issue, then a club that combats that isn't a "real" club. I have high hopes for this club in the sense that I want to feel like I've made a difference in the local environment. I know that what the club plans to do is equal to a minuscule amount worldwide, but I strongly believe that we should do every little bit to help out the world we live in.

For me, this is a start of uncharted territory as I've never led my own club before. Even though I am more than willing to undertake this challenge, I know that there are many skills that I do not have. I plan to use this club not only for the sole purpose of CAS hours but to also develop my skill as a leader and planner.

NRC Bake Sale

LO 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

In the month of November 2019, I planned alongside the NRC to hold a bake sale so as to raise funds for our operations. Since we need to buy trash bags and gloves, this bake sale needed to perform well so that we'd be well off.

To plan this, I had to fill out one of the forms made specifically for club events within the school's campus. This form required three signatures from various admin, so I made sure to fill it out correctly and collect signatures before a required time of four days prior to the event. This was my first time trying to plan an event like this for a club, so this allowed me to become more familiarized with the process within the school's administrative process.

TRI-M Instagram Page

LO 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

During COVID-19, I was elected president of the TRI-M honor society. With the new cabinet, we joined other clubs and honor societies in a joint effort to connect with the online community and create forms of entertainment and unity during the quarantine. As a result, we came up with the idea of an Instagram page in which we post covers and educational content twice a week.

With some help from my secretary, we were able to organize the system in which posts are updated while also coming up with trivia or posts related to musical history.

On October 31, the League of Legends World Championship Finals was hosted in Shanghai, China where, due to COVID-19, only a limited amount of live audience members were able to attend. Since I knew a couple of students were interested in the professional scene but did not know much about the game, I hosted a live watch party in order to answer any questions they may have while also providing explanations as to some of the intricacies found within matches. This match took place at 5 am local time, so waking up was a challenge that thankfully people stuck with and made it. Through this live-viewing, my friends later gave feedback that they enjoyed watching the games which piqued their interest in the professional scene.
