CAS Project
Creating and Managing a Community Social Media Page
Investigation
In 2018, near the end of 10th grade, I joined the music honor society at my school, Tri-M. I found this to be a perfect fit as I was very passionate about music. In 2019, I ran and got elected as secretary. I could feel my interest growing and so, at the end of 11th grade, I decided to run for president and got elected. Unlike my predecessors, however, I would be the first to take office under a world-wide pandemic where everything has moved online. Music is most often enjoyed in person, with previous events taking place on campus, but this was no longer an option.

Luckily, the school community was quick to jump back to action with the activities director pushing clubs to participate in "Quarantine Projects." My cabinet and I did not want to pass up this opportunity, so we brainstormed different ideas that we could do to support the community at large during these rough times. Amongst other club presidents, I joined many Zoom meetings to bounce ideas off of other, creative students.

In the end, we decided to pursue a more daunting task: an ongoing project in the form of an Instagram page.
Planning
To start planning, we (the cabinet) used our group chat to polish a posting schedule and to see what exactly we would post. While also asking our supervisor, Ms. Mestanza, for help and suggestions, we first settled on being a place where members from Tri-M could share their skills and amazing covers.

We were actually on a time frame, so time was of the essence. I quickly helped define our posting schedule--every Tuesday and Thursday of the week--and what we would post on those days. Tuesday would be a text-based post with interesting facts while Thursday would be home to the aforementioned covers. We then created catchy hashtags in order to remember them: #TuesdayTrivia and #ThursdayTunes.

With that, our first post was scheduled for Tuesday, April 14 in order to introduce the account, the cabinet members behind it, and to advertise it.

Reflection
This was my first time managing an account of this scale, with a schedule and a couple of hundred followers. Overall, I am very happy with the way it turned out and I'm proud of all that has been accomplished. To date, our most viewed cover reached over 3.7k views and we currently have 58 posts (as of Dec. 10, 2020) with no end date planned. This project will likely cross over to future cabinets with (hopefully) an expansion in content once quarantine is over. Since music is a huge passion of mine, this page--where I've submitted multiple videos-- was a nice pastime during an otherwise stressful senior year.
